Art Treasures Hunt in the Capitol -- In the spirit of the Winter Carnival medallion hunt, visitors of all ages can go on a scavenger hunt to discover not one treasure but twelve beautiful decorations in the State Capitol building. Each self-guided booklet includes a set of twelve gold stars to place next to the corresponding photograph when an item is found. At the end of the hunt, visitors will be awarded a gold state seal, a stamped autograph of architect Cass Gilbert, and become Jr. Art Historians. 9:00AM - 5:00PM -- State Capitol

HarMar Malls 2007 Winter Carnival Snowflake Contest -- That's right, we're giving away more than $1,000 in cash and prizes to those that create the most unique snowflakes. Use any materials you would like, (paint, needle work, paper mache, etc.).

The rules are simple. Turn in your creation by February 1, 2007 to one of the HarMar merchants listed below or to the Mall office. Winners will be announced in the mall on February 4, 2007. Need not be present to win. Entries submitted on or made of paper must be limited to a size of 12"x12".

Multi-block Ice Carving Competition Judging -- Each carving is produced by a team of four using up to 20 blocks of ice. Teams are granted 48 hours to complete their carving. It is common for participants to work continuously for 48 hours straight. Free Noon -- Harriet Island

Saint Paul Winter Carnival Royal Coronation & Dinner -- An elegant dinner and social are followed by the 2007 Winter Carnival Royal Coronation. This event features the legend of the Winter Carnival and includes the introduction of the Royal Guards, the four Winds, King Boreas and the crowning of the Wind Princesses and Aurora, Queen of the Snows. Gaslight Tours -- Tour this “gilded age” home and re-live the early days of flickering gas light and gracious entertaining among Saint Paul’s early Winter Carnival enthusiasts. 6:00 - 9:00 PM -- James J. Hill House - 240 Summit Avenue

An Evening with the Gilberts Capitol Tour -- Come in from the cold, warm up with a cup of hot tea or cider for a special evening tour that features the Smithsonian American Art Museum portraits of Capitol architect Cass Gilbert and his wife Julia Finch Gilbert. Learn about their courting, marriage and the busy life surrounding an acclaimed architect. Encounter a historical character that will tell a story about their role in the construction and decoration of the Capitol and examine the architectural details to find out about the effort that went into the construction of this monumental Italian Renaissance-styled building. Refreshments served following the tour.

Winter Carnival Classic Gymnastic Meet -- USA Gymnastics sanctioned boys and girls gymnastics competition. RiverCentre Exhibition Hall -- 9:00 AM - 9:00 PM
Winter Carnival Dance Team Competition -- Junior Varsity, Varsity High School, and B12 will all be competing at the largest dance competition in Minnesota. Jazz-Funk and High Kick dancing will be a part of the competition. This is the largest MSHSL Dance Competition. Trophies and special medals will be awarded to winning teams. 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM
Securian Frozen 5K and Half Marathon -- Marathon running is not an easy task, and neither are winter activities, but this event has served as a challenge for those who dare for over 20 years of Carnival. Single-block Ice Carving Competition -- See the magnificent masterpieces of artists from all over the Midwest. Winter on the Hill -- When Saint Paul citizens decided to hold a Winter Carnival in 1886 to combat the negative publicity about our weather in East Coast newspapers, James J. Hill was one of the earliest supporters. Saint Paul Winter Carnival Medicine Show Concert -- Music, Magic & Comedy aboard the Minnesota Centennial Showboat. Come inside during the Winter Carnival to get warm and relax while you listen to the Medicine Show. The Twin City's Medicine Show Music company has been called the living encyclopedia of american vaudeville. A fast moving show of musical novelties, tap dance, magic and audience interplay as only the medicine show can do it. Art Treasures Hunt in the Capitol -- In the spirit of the Winter Carnival medallion hunt, visitors of all ages can go on a scavenger hunt to discover not one treasure but twelve beautiful decorations in the State Capitol building. Each self-guided booklet includes a set of twelve gold stars to place next to the corresponding photograph when an item is found. At the end of the hunt, visitors will be awarded a gold state seal, a stamped autograph of architect Cass Gilbert, and become Jr. Art Historians. 10:00AM - 3:00PM -- State Capitol
Winter on the Hill -- When Saint Paul citizens decided to hold a Winter Carnival in 1886 to combat the negative publicity about our weather in East Coast newspapers, James J. Hill was one of the earliest supporters. Winter Canival history will be part of special 75-minute tours on how the Hill family and friends dressed for winter, their involvement with the Canival and how they celebrated and enjoyed the season. 10:00AM - 4:00PM -- James J. Vulcan Victory Torchlight Parade -- The spirit of the Vulcans and their victory over Boreas rises as night falls on Downtown St. Paul. With every unit lit in some way, the parade starts at 6th and Minnesota Streets and ends at 5th and Minnesota. It is truly a sight to see.
